Calypso, the type of folk song primarily from Trinidad though sung elsewhere in the southern and eastern Caribbean islands.
The love of Calypso music is a mixture of love of life and but not taking it too seriously. Since the 1912 when the style of music descended on the Caribs through mid-20th century Calypso music has spread its infectious wings the rest of Caribbean Antilles and Venezuela. Think of Carnival think of the subject of a calypso text, usually witty and satiric, is a local and topical event of political and social import, and the tone is one of allusion, mockery, and double entendre.
